Who we are

In 2020, Rachel Tucker, LVT and Peg Wheeler MS, LVT, IAPCM (Career Coach) founded the MeVTA to support and empower veterinary technicians across the state. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic and the ever-increasing demands of veterinary medicine forced them to temporarily sideline this crucial initiative.

By 2022, the need for a dedicated voice for veterinary technicians had become undeniable. A group of passionate individuals reignited the MeVTA, determined to create a space where technicians could connect, advocate for their profession, and pursue professional development.

When asked about her drive to commit to the Maine VTA, Lori states “I am a firm believer in the saying ‘always leave where you are better than you found it’. This profession is always evolving, and we each owe it to those who come next to continue to push the profession forward. Know, it is not about what your profession can do for you but what you can do for your profession, your peers, and all the animals we care for. I would love to see everyone in the profession taking part in their local, state, regional, national, and/or international organizations. Yes, time is a precious commodity for us all, taking part in these organizations is a small but crucial contribution of o

Amber graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science and passed the VTNE to become licensed.

Amber loves emergency and intensive care veterinary medicine, and after several years working in general practice, started working for the state’s largest Specialty/ER in Emergency and Critical Care, where she has been for four years.
